Metallic Masculinity

I have to admit, I've never really understood Haider Ackerman's design sensibility; but these metallic looks from his SS12 collection tick all the boxes of good design (fashion wise) for me. I'm in love with the attitude of this collection, and any designer that makes shiny fabrics look punch-you-in-the-face tough deserves to be understood!

Black & Gold

Black and Gold is one of those classic combinations that is very hard to get wrong. It seems to be everywhere right now and I'm especially loving black & gold jewelry. Zelia Horsley's AW11 collection utilizes the combination brilliantly. Her work has an ever so slight toughness, that completely appeals to my anti-glamor self.

I'm also intrigued by the draped vs. structured concept of these neck pieces from her SS12 collection.

If you are interested in buying her work, she has a number of stockists both online and brick and mortar.

Rabbit Heart

I can't tell you how much I am enamored by Felicity Brown's SS12 collection. Love the inclusion of jewel tones with nude shades, love the ombre effect-which the strategically placed hand dyed fabric strips create, love the soft neo-raphaelite styling. I can totally see Florence Welch in some of these pieces!

A graduate of the revered Royal College of Art, Felicity Brown is a fairly recent addition to the LFW schedule. She has stuck to her signature of working with hand-dyed pieces of fabric, but in contrast to her AW11 collection her SS12 one has a more refined commercial direction.

A look from her AW11 collection

I really wonder how she will use this technique going forward. Absolutely beautiful, I say!

Bahasa Pilotto

I was immediately drawn to the prints and textile choices at the Peter Pilotto SS12 show. The first thought I had was that these enigmatic linear prints closely resembled the style of Indonesian Batik.

The duo were in fact inspired by their recent trip to Indonesia, and we can see hints of the country in their collection. If I were to imagine what elements of their trip influenced their collection; I'd say that the prints were inspired by Batiks and touristy island culture, the lace came from the top half of the traditional costume, and the scuba silhouettes were inspired by the vast diving sites surrounding the islands.

My favorite part of the collection is the way the printed body-con bodices are woven to contour the frame. I love how all elements have come together, to fit ideally into a modern wardrobe.

Knit Knacks

I know I have been slacking with my blog posts lately, which I will blame on my new found pass-time: knitting!! :) For a 'maker' like me its seriously addictive, not to mention relaxing. I've only just learnt and I am still figuring out the nuances, but I intend on posting some work once I embark on some legitimate knitting projects.

In the mean-time, I will leave you with a collection of ace cocoon knitwear entitled Unconventional Body Pieces by Vietnamese-Hungarian textile/fashion designer Phoung Thuy Nguyen. Nguyen received considerable amount of press for these handmade knit pieces made solely of rope. All I can ask is HOW??!

On a similar note: How fantastic are these Converse x Missoni SS12 Auckland Racer knit motif kicks?!

Ground Zero

London based Ground-Zero's AW11/12 collection is right up my alley! Geometric prints, standout leather, and colors aplenty; all with the just the right amount of subversive edge. Definietly not for the faint-hearted, but a fantastic collection in my opinion!
