Hazy Portrayals

Stefan Giftthaler's deliberately out of focus photo series entitled 'Color Mood' subtly exudes retro charm. The hazy overlay coupled with the brilliant combination of colors and shapes add a new dimension to color blocking. The styling enhances the overall concept perfectly.

'Color Mood'

He has used this 'hazy' technique in number of his shoots, which have a tendency of making  you feel like you're in some kind of drug induced state - in the best possible way of course :).

70's Bloom

My days have been really full up over last month or so. Work and then a work related trip to Cape Town left me little time or mental energy to put together any posts. I'm still catching up on the SS12 collections.

Summer's over now that the big fashion weeks have come and gone. I can't believe that we are heading into  Autumn. The Seventies were a big inspiration for me this season, a sort of refined flower power aesthetic. Daisies & Dandelions dancing with the wind in faraway fields, perfectly depicts my frame of mind over the past several months.

Images pulled from all over the web.
Here's an excerpt from an SS11 design project I did for my portfolio a while ago, entitled 70's Bloom. If you are interested in seeing anymore of my creative exploits, you can find them here. A direct link will follow shortly, on the side bar.

Cape Town by the way is an amazing city. I really hope to visit again for leisure in the future.

Broken Record

Its funny how records & cassettes bring about instant nostalgia. Giuseppe Siracusa and Angelo Bramanti's 'Syracuse in VHS'  mixed media piece is an unlikely composite of objects, taking me back to pre-digital times. With a preference for working with waste materials; the duo have an arresting grungy aesthetic, especially in their works using old records.

Retro-spect

I'm not exactly sure why I'm drawn to this image, but it's probably the backdrop of the pale brick wall and door, coupled with styling that combines various retro eras seamlessly. The photo is taken from a shoot of Bird on a Wire's 70's vintage leather skirt pictured in the photograph; as listed on ASOS Marketplace.

All I can say is I'm totally feeling it!

Color Berlin

Matthias Heiderich is a Berlin based self-taught photographer who takes the most wonderful of photos! I can't stop staring at his ethereal but compositionally graphic images. The first thing that came to mind, is what wonderful album art these would make. After much stalking of his flickr albums, I found out that he has indeed collaborated with some bands.

To me a lot of his work visually evokes the same mood as the film Gattaca...the contradiction of retro and futuristic (although with brighter color). There's also a 70's vibe resonating through his work....

My favorite of his photographic series are the Color Berlin ones!

Stills from the 1997 film Gattaca

They are so many great photos, and are even better when viewed at actual size. It was hard for me to select a few ;D.
