Metallic Masculinity

I have to admit, I've never really understood Haider Ackerman's design sensibility; but these metallic looks from his SS12 collection tick all the boxes of good design (fashion wise) for me. I'm in love with the attitude of this collection, and any designer that makes shiny fabrics look punch-you-in-the-face tough deserves to be understood!

Infrared Insights

'Infra' by Richard Mosse shows notoriously war-torn Congo in a different light. Mosse employed the use of an abandoned military infrared surveillance technology called Kodak Aerochrome, to shoot the war zone regions in Eastern Congo. The result, are these surreal images of a place that is so far removed from artistic persuasion; they leave me with feelings of both intrigue and discomfort.

Frivolous Furnishings

This fun little cushion, fashioned in the form of a Petit Beurre biscuit would be the highlight of any tea party!

'Prickly Pair Chairs'- how ironic to design a chair inspired by the last thing anyone would sit on. This quirky take on the classical French oval chair is a product of designer Valentina Gonzales Wohler's Mexixan heritage and European residency.

South Korean artist Lila Jang "turn[s] the traditional idea of furniture literally onto its head". Her creations look like they came straight out of Alice's Wonderland!

Hazy Portrayals

Stefan Giftthaler's deliberately out of focus photo series entitled 'Color Mood' subtly exudes retro charm. The hazy overlay coupled with the brilliant combination of colors and shapes add a new dimension to color blocking. The styling enhances the overall concept perfectly.

'Color Mood'

He has used this 'hazy' technique in number of his shoots, which have a tendency of making  you feel like you're in some kind of drug induced state - in the best possible way of course :).

If you can't tell already, I think his vision is genius!

Clockwork Memories

Rob Smith's crafted memory sticks are another addition to my mechanical object fixation. The UK artist creates these hand made USB drives using various types of wood and old watches. I'm loving the vintage feel on a modern day gadget.

He also creates cuff links using the same concept. Smith's work is available for purchase at his Etsy store.

Black & Gold

Black and Gold is one of those classic combinations that is very hard to get wrong. It seems to be everywhere right now and I'm especially loving black & gold jewelry. Zelia Horsley's AW11 collection utilizes the combination brilliantly. Her work has an ever so slight toughness, that completely appeals to my anti-glamor self.

I'm also intrigued by the draped vs. structured concept of these neck pieces from her SS12 collection.

If you are interested in buying her work, she has a number of stockists both online and brick and mortar.
